Messaggio di condoglianze dell’Ambasciatore David Thorne – Roma 17 maggio 2010

A nome del Presidente degli Stati Uniti e di tutto il popolo americano desidero esprimere il più profondo cordoglio per la perdita dei militari italiani che hanno sacrificato la loro vita in Afghanistan. In questo triste giorno, vi assicuriamo che i nostri pensieri e le nostre preghiere sono rivolti alle famiglie e ai cari delle vittime e dei militari gravemente feriti. Le parole non possono alleviare il dolore per una perdita che coinvolge tutti noi.

Il lavoro che stiamo facendo in Afghanistan è di profonda importanza. Lavoriamo con il popolo afgano per portare loro pace, sicurezza e libertà. Siamo profondamente grati per l’impegno della Repubblica Italiana a sostegno di questi sforzi vitali in Afghanistan e rispettiamo e rendiamo onore al sacrificio di questi eroi italiani.

Condolence Message From Ambassador Thorne – May 17, 2010

On behalf of the President of the United States and all of the American people, I offer my deepest sympathy at the loss of the Italian soldiers who gave their lives in Afghanistan.  On this difficult day, we assure you that our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims and of those who were gravely injured. Words cannot assuage their loss, and it is a loss we all share.  

The work that we are carrying out in Afghanistan is of profound importance. We are working with the Afghan people to bring them peace, security, and freedom. We are deeply grateful for the commitment of the Italian Republic in support of these vital efforts in Afghanistan and we respect and honor the sacrifice of these Italian heroes.
