Vatican Radio interviews PAO on Haiti
January 21, 2010 – Vatican Radio interviewed the Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See, J. Nathan Bland, about the response to the earthquake in Haiti. Responding to questions about the U.S. role in Haiti, Mr. Bland emphasized that Americans have a history of showing how the human family can come together for those in need.
“Our military is there on a humanitarian basis, to be able to help distribute the aid, and we’re also there to help support the U.N. peacekeeping forces in their security efforts. It’s a broad international effort right now.” The government of Haiti, Bland said, is guiding the relief and reconstruction, with support from the U.S., the UN and the many individual nations that are contributing resources to Haiti’s recovery.
