For those looking for a way to help Abruzzo earthquake victims
Several public and private institutions are collecting funds for the victims of the recent earthquake in the Abruzzo region.
While the Embassy does not endorse a specific institution, this list includes some important institutions accepting online donations from abroad.
The Italian Red Cross accepts online donations. For donations related to the Abruzzo quake, select “Sisma Abruzzo Aprile 2009” in the initial “Causale della donazione” drop down menu.
The Italian Dipartimento della Protezione Civile has created a webpage with 3 bank account info for donations. Two of the three bank accounts listed include Swift Code for donations coming from abroad.
Caritas Italiana, the main Catholic agency for assistance -part of the Italian Bishops Conference- has a page with several accounts listed, all accepting donations from abroad.
The Italian Embassy in D.C. also has a webpage with information about donations.
The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) has created a “NIAF/Abruzzo Relief Fund”.
Several Italian newspapers and television channels are sponsoring donations. They can be found on the Internet together with many other institutions collecting funds for the victims of the quake.
The Italian media has warned that hoax money collections are taking place on Internet and social media sites. We recommend only using reliable institutions when making donations.
