[…] In a speech today at L’Ecole Militaire in Paris, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton emphasized that the United States and Europe are essential partners in meeting today’s global challenges, and stressed that we are eager to strengthen cooperation with a Europe that is strong and unified. Today, thanks to the partnership between our nation and many others, Europe is more secure than ever before.
[…] Speaking at France’s École Militaire, Clinton emphasized that the Vienna-based Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and NATO, the two largest and most comprehensive security organizations in Europe, are well-suited to deal with the 21st-century security environment and should be the venues for future discussions. At the same time, she said, Russia has offered a variety of proposals about the future of European security that deserve a thoughtful response.
[…] The United States echoes the grave concerns expressed by the European Council today regarding Iran’s nuclear program, and is united with our international partners in calling on Iran to comply fully with its international obligations.
We, alongside our partners, remain committed to working with Iran to find a peaceful diplomatic resolution to the international community’s concerns with Iran’s nuclear program.

[…] I warmly congratulate President Van Rompuy and my new counterpart High Representative Ashton. I look forward to working closely with them to strengthen and broaden our partnership -- from achieving stability in Afghanistan to securing Iranian compliance with its nonproliferation obligations and promoting a comprehensive peace in the Middle East, among many other shared objectives. |
[…] “Twenty years ago the world watched in awe and admiration as men and women throughout this region broke the shackles of oppression, and emerged a free people,” Biden said in Bucharest, Romania, as Europeans observe the 20th anniversary of the end of the Cold War. “When the Iron Curtain was lifted, the wall fell in Berlin, in their places grew democracy, a democracy that you’ve deserved for a long time.” |
[…] The new phased missile defense plan that President Obama has proposed for Europe is designed to meet a growing threat not only to the United States, but also to allies, Vice President Biden said October 21 in Warsaw, Poland.
“We now appreciate that Poland’s government agrees with us that there is now a better way, with new technology. |
[…] President Obama will welcome the European Union to Washington on November 3rd and 4th. On November 3rd, the President and Vice President look forward to meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, and High Representative/Secretary General Javier Solana to build on the discussion begun in Prague on April 5th and to consult on a broad range of strategic issues of mutual concern. |
[…] Members of the European Union (EU) have agreed to help the United States in its effort to close the detention facility at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, by accepting some detainees and sharing information on the former detainees once they have arrived in an EU country.
The EU and the United States released a joint statement June 15 that outlines a framework for the 27 individual European Union states to accept detainees, as well as other cooperation on counterterrorism.
