DEMONSTRATION NOTICE: UpDate on Alcoa Demonstration: February 3, 2010

Local police advised the U.S.Embassy in Rome that the ALCOA employees who were demonstrating in front of Palazzo Chigi yesterday camped overnight at Piazza Montecitorio and their numbers have increased to approximately 700. Despite the fact that the demonstration is aimed at the local government and not the U.S. Embassy, there will be an increased local police presence in front of the Embassy for as long as the demonstration continues.

Piazza Montecitorio is located just west of Palazzo Chigi. The U.S. Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens avoid this area until the demonstrators disperse, and that you remain alert in the area after the demonstration has ended.
